Another new automotive brand is coming to the UK...

October 15th, 2026

The UK automotive retail landscape is about to get even more competitive.

iCaur has confirmed that it will launch in the UK in early 2027, becoming the fifth Chery-owned brand to enter the market alongside Chery, Omoda, Jaecoo and Lepas.

The first model expected here is the V27, an electrified 4x4, but from a dealership perspective there is another part of the announcement that caught our attention.

Autocar reports that Chery has already begun the process of recruiting UK retail partners for the new brand and has been showing the V27 to prospective retailers.

For dealer groups, that makes this about much more than another new vehicle arriving in Britain.

Another dealer network has to be built
Every new manufacturer entering the UK needs more than competitive products.

It needs retailers capable of representing the brand successfully.

That means choosing the right dealer partners, establishing sites, building customer awareness and creating sales and aftersales operations capable of supporting the brand as it grows.

For dealer groups considering new franchise opportunities, there is clearly potential.

But securing a franchise is only the beginning.

The challenge is turning that opportunity into a commercially successful dealership operation.

And much of that comes down to people.

New brands create new competition
A less familiar manufacturer may require sales teams to do more than explain the vehicle.

They may also have to build confidence in the manufacturer itself.

Managers need to establish the right culture and commercial standards.

Aftersales teams need to give customers confidence that their vehicle will be properly supported after the sale.

Technicians need the skills and training to work on increasingly sophisticated electrified vehicles.

And senior leaders need to decide how another franchise fits alongside the wider priorities of the dealer group.

That is why the arrival of another brand shouldn't simply be viewed as a question of how many dealerships it might open.

It also increases competition for experienced automotive people.

Dealer Principals, Heads of Business, Sales Managers, Aftersales Managers, Service Managers, Workshop Controllers and experienced Technicians don't suddenly become more plentiful because another franchise enters the market.

New operations need good people.

Existing dealerships need to retain theirs.

The opportunity is bigger than the badge above the door
There are now more manufacturers competing for the attention of UK customers than there were only a few years ago.

That gives dealer groups more choice when deciding where to invest.

But ultimately the brands that succeed at dealership level won't be determined by the product alone.

Leadership, customer experience, operational discipline, aftersales capability and the quality of the people representing the franchise will all play their part.

At Pembrook Resourcing, that's one of the reasons we follow changes in automotive retail closely.

Recruitment demand often starts well before a vacancy reaches a job board.

It begins when businesses make decisions about where they want to grow, how they want to compete and what capability they'll need to make those plans work.

The arrival of iCaur is another example of how quickly the UK dealership landscape is evolving.

And we'll be watching with interest to see which retail groups become part of its UK network.
